Sales of Logan steam up in Europe

Mahindra Logan is one of the most successful models of the company although the product’s image is a little skeptic in the auto market of India. The model is sold as Renault Dacia in Europe. Recently, the product reached a significant milestone when the production facility of Romania introduced the one-millionth unit. This exceptional unit was white coloured and was an entry level product equipped with a 1.2L petrol engine. The engine produces 72bhp. Later on, Renault Dacia registered even more raised sales in the local market. As far as the European markets are concerned, the model is doing well. Recently Dacia made an announcement that in terms of sales, Logan stands at the 6th place in Russia. As far as the Indian auto market is concerned, Mahindra & Mahindra has begun selling the car with its own brand name but the model still requires a re-introduction with a new zeal. It is to be mentioned here that earlier the model was introduced through the joint venture between Mahindra and Renault but this tie-up between M&M and Renault dissolved this year. However, the model has shown good sales results in the last few months. The innovative marketing strategy of the company and the robust efforts for the product’s sales have resulted in good sales’ figures. The sales of this sedan have contributed in the rise in sales of Mahindra. During the August month of previous year, merely 469 units of Logan car were sold but in the present year, the company has been successful in selling 801 units indicating a 70.79 percent increase. The Indian auto market is also waiting for the a new SUV from Mahindra. According to the sources, Mahindra and Mahindra is developing an SUV which will not only excel in the Indian auto industry but it will also compete at an international level by appealing the users abroad. If sources are to be believed, this new SUV from M&M will incorporate a mHawk engine which presently powers Mahindra Scorpio. The speculated SUV is expected to be available with the price tag of INR 15 lakh. It is also being expected that the new SUV from Mahindra will be launched in the coming year.

Low-Cost Cars are Growth Hotspot

It’s the hottest of hot topics – but it’s open to the widest of interpretations says research by just-auto.com.

What, exactly, is a low-cost car? The Dacia Logan? Fiat Palio? Toyota Aygo? Tata Nano? Maruti 800? Lada Zhiguli? Or a five-year-old VW Golf?

The answer is all of them. Low-cost cars are the agents of growth in the global car market. Low-cost vehicles priced below EUR7,000 could reach a 13% share of the world market – or about 10m vehicles – by 2010.

As the developed word stagnates in terms of car sales, emerging markets are driving growth. And producing cars that suit the needs of consumers in these markets is an imperative for the car industry.

That means driving down costs to the consumer — low purchase price and low running costs. And it means driving down costs for the manufacturer in order to maximise profitability. Getting this equation right is essential — there’s less room to manoeuvre with a low-cost car, and margins are inevitably slight.

The research concluded that there is no single ‘low-cost segment’ — rather low-cost is a philosophy that can be applied to a range of different sizes and types of cars – with different price points in the marketplace. The selling price of a Fiat Linea is approximately five times that of a Tata Nano – yet both are low-cost programmes.

Renault’s experience with Logan suggests it is possible to make strong profits from a low-cost car. Logan offers a 6% margin, compared to Renault’s average of 3%.

The benefit to the bottom line for companies with a strong presence in the low-cost sectors is clear; manufacturers without low-cost programmes are at a disadvantage in the long term, especially given production forecasts of up to 18m sub-EUR10,000 vehicles per year by 2012.

High per-unit profitability is only achievable if a large proportion of sales are for higher-specified versions of the car. It is estimated that Logan would not be profitable if cars were sold at the initial target price of EUR5,000. The fact that average price is closer to EUR8,000 is the main reason for the high profitability.

The research also concluded that it is extremely difficult to make a single car to suit all emerging market regions worldwide.

The Toyota Qualis remained the best selling UV in the Indian market with 36,699 units sold in calendar year 2004. Ironically, Toyota has now withdrawn the Qualis from the Indian market with the recent introduction of the Innova. This in a year when Qualis sales grew by 19%. Tata presented a facelift on the Sumo and renamed it as the Sumo Victa. Sales grew by 16% to reach 30,006 units in 2004.

The new Mahindra Scorpio SUV had all of its major systems designed directly by suppliers with the only input from Mahindra being design, performance specifications and program cost. Design and engineering of systems was done by suppliers, as was testing, validation and materials selection. Sourcing and engineering locations were also chosen by suppliers. The parts were later assembled in a Mahindra plant under the Mahindra Badge (as Mahindra is a well known brand in India in the MUV segment). Using this method the company was able to build a from scratch a new vehicle with virtually 100 percent supplier involvement from concept to reality for $ 120 million, including improvements to the plant. The project took 5 years to move from concept to final product.

In April 2006, the company launched an upgraded Scorpio – dubbing it the ‘All-New’ Scorpio. In June 2007, Mahindra launched a pick-up version in India known as the Scorpio Getaway. Recently, M & M has launched a face lifted version of the model

Can you put a turbo on a Mahindra 2815 tractor?

Can you put a turbo on a Mahindra 2815 tractor?
I was told that the Mahindra 2815 and 3015 were exact same except one has a turbo the other doesn’t. Can you purchase a turbo to put on the 2815 to give it the extra 4 hp the other has?

There are multiple after market turbos available for diesel engines, you need to know who manufactures the engine in this tractor.

Here are a few examples:

John Deere uses Yanmar or New Holland engines

Ford uses New Holland engines

Kubota uses Kubota engines

Kioti uses Kubota engines

All of these engines mentioned can be turbo-charged
