April 23, 2010 Mahindra today slashed Prices for its Logan reduced in the range of Rs 27,000 to Rs 80,000 for BS III variant. It also announced a reduction in the range of Rs 24,000 to Rs 65,000 for the BS IV variant. The new Logan prices will take effect from Monday, the 26th of April, 2010. Mahindra said that the prices have been rationalised to make the Logan a better value proposition for its customers.
This announcement would position the Logan in a far more competitive space than where it currently stands, and will serve placatory purposes for existing Logan fans anxious to know about the car’s future.
Announcing the new prices, Mr Rajesh Jejurikar, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindrasaid, “The rationalisation of the prices of the Logan have been made so as to provide a better value proposition for our customers. All the significant features of the Logan are now available at a much more affordable price.We would now like the pricing to make us more aggressive in the market. Mahindra remains committed to our customers and to the success of the Logan”.
This is the second big announcement regarding the Logan this week after Mahindra announced the new agreement between Mahindra and Renault. After Mahindra bought out Renault’s 49% stake in the JV, this move would help in providing an opportunity to chart out a new strategy to help drive the Logan brand. Mahindra will be responsible for the manufacturing, sales and service of the Logan in India which also implies relevant changes from the engineering point of view, in keeping with customer requirements

Mahindra Renault Ltd (Mahindra and Renault’s 51:49 JV) is introducing Logan in India. Renault Logan (also known as Dacia Logan) is a robust, reliable, economical mid-sizer. It has very good space and comfort is good too. Logan coming to India is stripped-down version of European Logan and will have very basic features only. This car is expected to do good in rural areas where Mahindra has better reach. This car will attract prospective Esteem/Indigo buyers and will succeed in breaking many of them. It would be very good option for people seeking a basic, reliable, contemporary sedan.
However, Mahindra has kept all the details secret as of now but if we believe that this is the same car as being sold in some European countries then we have got a little to talk about here.2630mm of wheelbase would be a class-leader and will provide ample legroom in front and rear both. 510 liters of boot-space would be more than adequate. Renault’s engineering and Mahindra’s dealer-network should give fantastic after-sales-services and reliability.1.4L, 76ps Petrol engine’s performance would be good enough unless they tune engine too much for better fuel economy. MAHINDRA & MAHINDRA, auto major of India, slashed the price of its utility vehicle brand, Logan, by Rs 24,000-Rs 80,000 across petrol and diesel variants. M&M is trying hard to boost its plummeting sales after buying out French automaker Renault’s 49% stake in their joint venture.
The new prices will be affective from April 26, the company said in its release.
According to the release the Euro-3 compliant models will be available for Rs 4.86 lakh, while Euro-4 compliant models will come for Rs 4.89-5.80 lakh.
Logan is facing tough competition in its segment, in the year ended on march 31, Logan’s sale dropped from 13,423 units to 5,322 units. Although, the entry level sedan segment registered a growth of 14% on year on year basis touching 270,000 sale units.
“Last week M&M and Renault ended their joint venture, Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd, which manufactured Logan,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, CEO automotive division. “The buyout of Mahindra Renault will lead to more competent sharing and integration of critical manufacturing functions with the parent firm, and help Logan’s price cut” Rajesh added.
In strengthening of rupee against Euro will offset the impact of the price cut, as 50% of the car parts are imported from parent unit of Renault.
By reducing the price the company is offering a value proposition to those looking to move from a hatchback to a sedan, said Rajesh.
